An Ensemble Theatre production
Directed by Ensemble Theatre Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry, Jim Cartwright’s timeless comedy TWO introduces fourteen colourful characters, all skilfully played by Brian Meegan and Kate Raison.
Set in a country pub, the lives of our middle-aged landlord and landlady couple have literally become their work. They met as children outside the pub, were engaged in the pub, had their wedding reception in the pub, and eventually bought the pub. Over the years they have served every type - and you’re about to meet them, a misfit crowd of eccentric and hilarious individuals. There’s Moth, who loves Maud (and every other woman) fervently; Mrs Iger, with her passion for quiet, strong men; possessive Roy, jealous of anybody who looks at Lesley (even the darts players); Alice and Fred and their Elvis obsession; and the publicans themselves – a married couple with an unspoken secret.
As the various members of the local community pull up a stool and let us into their lives, it becomes clear that TWO is essentially about relationships, and as they bicker their way through the night, none on display is more fascinating than that of our landlord and landlady. How will their story end?
By turns funny, heart-warming and poignant, don’t miss this smash hit comedy.
