Starring Doug Parkinson and very special guest Colleen Hewett
Hard to believe this multi-award winning artist of soul and rock and box office hit musicals began his stellar career thrown into the musical deep end, only to emerge decades later as a household name, respected and admired by audiences and peers alike.
Doug Parkinson is highly regarded as a 'singer’s singer', an artist capable of interpreting many genres of popular music. From smoky ballads to hard driving rock and all points in between, Doug Parkinson has it all covered and is considered one of Australia’s leading showmen and entertainers. "A rolled gold superstar" to quote The Australian newspaper.
After two sold out Australian national tours Dear Prudence - The 50th Anniversary Tour revisits the roller coaster ride that has been Doug Parkinson’s remarkable journey, punctuated by both happy and not so happy events that have shaped Parkinson the man, a survivor in a business notorious for its uncompromising demands both personal and professional.
The repertoire includes interpretations of hits from such legendary artists as Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Michael McDonald, The Beatles and The Great American Song Book, just to name a few. A highlight of this exciting new show is Doug Parkinson’s unique renditions of his own hit records The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, Without You, I’ll Be Around, and The Hungry Years.
But wait there’s more, as they say in the classics. It’s also the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ White album, considered universally as a masterpiece and the source of Doug Parkinson’s greatest recording triumph, the iconic and masterful Dear Prudence.
"I will be paying all due respect to the White album, one of the greatest recordings in pop history, created by the greatest band in pop history. It is so exciting for me to revisit this amazing album and to present it live on stage. It will bring back memories of such a happy time for me as it will for audiences I’m sure. I will be putting my own stamp on it (as I did with Dear Prudence) and I truly believe the music has remained fresh and vital even to this day. I will be accompanied by eight of Australia’s most admired musicians and vocalists. It’s a big sound for a big show."
Doug Parkinson describes Dear Prudence - The 50th Anniversary Tour as "a symphonic tour de force.""My life, my music."

"A remarkable story, from teen singing prodigy to pop diva to the gutsy mature singer who played alongside Hugh Jackman as Peter Allen’s mother in The Boy from Oz." - Andrew Rule, Herald Sun
"A great artist helps us see our own pain, share it, soothe it and confirm the beauty of life, love and laughter. Colleen's voice, (like, for me, great Jewish humour) carries the burden and joy of many lives past and many lives inside her" - Rod Saunders
